Welcome to Astral Patterns!
My (pen) name is Dorian Moreau and this portion of the website will share some of my insights as an astrology geek. Working with planetary energies has been very useful for my personal growth and self-reflection, and it’s been years.
Let me start by saying upfront that there are many astrology schools out there, and I found their insights complementary, so I will use their different angles to look for the Astral Patterns. Tropical Astrology, the one you have probably encountered most, is actually based on the positions of the Earth and the constellations over 2,000 years ago, and it seems a little silly to still use it now, but I found it (surprisingly!) useful for “appearance”-level - what everyone sees. The one I use most of the time is called Sidereal Astrology, with the corrected positions, but there are several other branches I discovered over the years.
First things, first, have you wondered how the Sun sees you? Or rather, how does this incarnation look, from the Sun’s perspective? Well, the aspect of astrology that actually helps with this is called Heliocentric, as opposed to the classical Geocentric perspective. I personally believe it is a useful snapshot of what this incarnation may be about. I use Philip Sedgwick’s interpretations for this.
But there are also different layers to the Geocentric perspective - I feel that Draconic Astrology is best for seeing who we are just before this incarnation, what we bring with us, what we want to achieve. It’s also very good to spot soul contracts. Tropical Astrology, as mentioned, is appearance, what people usually see without looking deeper into things. Sidereal Astrology is for seeing deeper into things, closer to the archetypes, soul contracts and any hidden causes.
So many schools in Astrology, which seems fitting because Aletheia Pathways means that there is a multiplicity of paths to the Truth. It’s not an exact science, in the same way psychology cannot be an exact science, since it’s always applied to the individual and we are all unique. Thankfully, we generally get multiple clues when something is really important and meant for us - in Astrology, look for aha! moments, or things that resonate well beyond the general descriptions - like multiple hits on the same degree, or the same messages mirrored by several degrees and aspects. The same for transits, I often say that the planets are really aligned to hit me on the head with something (since I can be rather oblivious)!!!
Another tool I have been using is called the Sabian Symbols. These are images, channeled a while ago by a medium, aimed at illustrating the messages held in the 360 degrees of the zodiac. I discovered that I can get a more precise understanding if I use them, so I created the Windows to the Soul imagery with Midjourney to illustrate them and facilitate working with them in a more playful way. The best interpretations of these are by James Burgess and Dane Rudhyar.
What does an Astral Patterns Report show? (You can use the instructions shared on this website and create your own, or reach out to me if you feel called to. However, I will charge for my time.)
Heliocentric view of this incarnation: this is the first thing I would look at.
You can check out your own via Astrodienst here, and Philip Sedgwick’s insights here.
Draconic view of this incarnation: You can check out your own via Astrodienst here, but I would always read this in conjunction with the Sidereal view - it is easier to understand them together. I would be looking at your Sun, Moon, ASC/DESC and IC/Midheaven Axis, but there are many many layers and depths of reading possible. DRA IC is the best way to start, the roots of the soul, its foundation. What you came here to do is a mix of Sun, Moon and ASC. Finally, I see the DRA Midheaven as the most ambitious, the highest potential.
Sidereal view of this incarnation: This part will read more like a traditional chart, with Houses, representing various life areas. You can check out your own via Astrodienst here. I would look at where the planetary energies are located, and how their energies may interact, aka blend or clash. I would start with the same key elements, Sun, Moon, ASC/DESC and IC/Midheaven axis. The ASC/DESC and IC/Midheaven axis also mark the start of the 1st/7th, and 4th/10th Houses. These are really the most important influences, together with the North/South Node axis. Sometimes, other planetary energies can be emphasized because of connections/links/ positions in the chart. Think about them like different flavored energies, how they work together and where they are located is important to see how they come out. I often see connections between the Draconic, Sidereal and Tropical charts, where the same zodiac degrees will be occupied by different planets, like a Draconic/Sidereal/Tropical multilayered thing (or a cake, because we're here to "get cooked", right?). That will show that the message of that degree is very important, and the planetary energies will also influence each other because of that touching point.
Again, the Nadir/IC, the foundations, the family, the home life is the best way to start. The Sun and the Moon can be seen as DM and DF, or as Higher Self, and Soul Self, but generally it is agreed that the Moon is linked to emotions, and the Sun is linked to the more integrated self, getting stronger as we mature. The ASC is early and formative, but I have found it to also be about the unfolding story of this incarnation. Last, I would be looking at where the planetary energies are located, and what connections they have (what aspects they make) and see if I spot any patterns.
Tropical Astrology view of this incarnation: this is the chart you will probably be familiar with, under the traditional system (which is used by most people in the Western world). You can check out your own via Astrodienst here. The house placements would be the same, but the signs and the Sabian symbols would be different.
It’s a LOT to take in, so my advice would be to keep all the charts from Astrodienst and pick one or two themes that pop up and start looking into the stories, the symbols, and the archetypes concerned. Then come back and revisit this. Sometimes, transits also illuminate and give some of the archetypes a power boost - this is a good time to work with them directly and reflect on where they are in your own chart, and how and where they come up in your life. Remember, always, that each of us has EVERYTHING - the playful and easy, the blessings, the challenges, they just manifest differently.
As the website grows, I will add more of my insights.
Thank you for reading, and use it well!
